Layla's first month July 3 - August 26

My original intention for this blog was to print it after Layla was born and then start a new blog for her first year. I have now decided to combine them. Layla is now almost 8 weeks old and a lot has been going on.

Week One: July 3 - July 10
The day before we left the hospital I had a nightmare that we had a major earthquake and lost electricity. I was so upset because she was still on the lights. The very next day we had an earthquake. It was crazy. Mackie and I were sitting on the couch and I thought Mali was shaking us but then Mackie looked terrified and asked if we were having an earthquake and I calmly said yes and started to laugh. I cant believe Layla had her first earthquake only days old. I was really glad we were not in the hospital still. Layla was very good the first week. When we got home on July 6 we had a lot to take care of. Layla was still jaundice and need blood work done. She slept through the whole thing. That made me so happy because I was still in a daze and hated the fact she had to have blood drawn. My milk came in and breastfeeding started to go smoothly and the increased feeding helped get rid of the jaundice. We went to see the doctor and everything checked out great.

Week 2: July 12 - July 18
We had a lot of visitors the first couple of weeks when we got home. It was great to see everyone. Layla did very well with all of the guests. She would want to breastfeed more when there was a lot of people around. I think it had to do with wanting to be back with her mom. And I didn't mind having to take her away to spend that time with her

anyways. Chris started to feed Layla bottles at two weeks. She loves eating with her daddy.

Week 3: July 19 - July 25
It has been weird celebrating birthdays with a baby. For Chris's birthday we did not do much. On Friday my mom came over and we went out to dinner for the first time alone leaving the baby. We went to the Yard house. It was fun but we missed her so much and rushed out after we paid the bill. On Sunday we had our immediate family over for a BBQ. There were 18 people there. Just parents and siblings. It was great to have all of the sides of family at our house. My sisters came up with my dad from Newport and they got to see the baby for the first time.

After those first initial weeks things have become normal. Layla sleeps through the night from 9 ish to 4 ish. We are not breastfeeding anymore because she became a lazy eater. So I pump every three hours and feed her bottles. It is nice not to be so tied to the couch anymore. Layla is happier because she is getting enough to eat now. She has her 2 month appointment on September 3 when she gets her first round of shots. I am so happy that it will be a Friday so we have the weekend to recover. I will be posting and keeping this blog more up to date from now on.
